Starting a Vanpool with ABS Vans…
First and foremost, we do not lease or contract out our vans. We give you the van and it is used on a month to month basis. We only use the 15-passenger commuter vans, as it is not economical to use anything smaller. All of the expenses are the same for a large van versus a small van.
If you decide that you want to start a new route, or switch companies, ABS Vans is here to help! We ask that you have at least 10 passengers (including the driver) to start a van. We max our vans out at 14 passengers, but most keep around 12 passengers at any given time due to commuters who tele-work and go on travel on different days. Once you have your 10 passengers, we like to have two weeks’ notice before the day you would like to start the new route, but other than that you are ready to start with an ABS van.
We provide you with a gas card which has no limit as to how much gas you can use. At the same time, the van is not to be used for personal use, and we do get a detailed gas bill which is monitored each month to prevent misuse. We pay for parking (if necessary) and we provide the insurance. ABS also does all routine and unscheduled maintenance to all of our vans. While we have your van for repairs, oil changes, or anything else, we give you a spare van so you can still go to and from work with no worries!
As far as payments are concerned, everyone is to pay ABS Vans, not the driver or manager of the van. Everyone pays the same amount on the van, whether there are 4 people on the van, or 14. The only extra charge there would be is if the gas prices increase dramatically as they did during Hurricane Katrina. We compensate for that cost by implementing a gas surcharge each month. This is based on how much gas each van uses; therefore, each van has a different surcharge.
Payments can be made with cash, check, VISA, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express. We also accept SmartBenefit Vouchers, Commuter Cheks, TranBen Vouchers, or the electronic SmartBenefits (with the SmarTrip card). Be sure to check with your Human Resource Department to see if you qualify for the government subsidy and possibly Ride for FREE!!
